An environmentally friendly way to process grey water, sewage and industry contaminated water
Reedbeds are an environmentally friendly way to process grey water, sewage, industry contaminated water such as water coke over effluent (steelworks) or oil interceptors along with being useful for composting leachate agricultural washings. For grey water and residential waste water, it is recommended that a 6m² reedbed is required per person.

Reedbeds use a reedbed’s rhizosphere (rootzone) to purify water, the microorganisms that live within the rootzone are extremely efficient at purifying water and can be more efficient than traditional chemical and mechanical removal of contaminants.

Our reedbed lining involves a 3 layer system, containing two geotextile layers encasing a Geomembrane, the Geotextile has a high puncture resistance. This helps stop the ingress of external root systems and stops the reeds from piercing the liner which can result in contamination of the ground water in the surrounding area.

Our tried and tested process which we have defined through the years

Excavation of the reedbed area is completed by your chosen contractor to your plan specification. A layer of sand may also be included in the specification, to be added by your chosen contractor.
Geosynthetic will then begin installing the Geotextiles and Geomembranes required for the reedbed, the thickness of the Geomembrane will vary based on the ground conditions.
The Geomembrane sheets are then welded by our expert team, this is usually required on larger projects where a single sheet will not cover the excavated area.
These welds are tested by our onsite team to ensure their quality and longevity.
Once testing has been completed reeds can be added to the bed and any additional flora can be added before filling the reedbed.
