Floating Covers
Our Process
Floating Covers
Step 1

The cover material is placed at the bottom of the reservoir, cell or tank, and is attached to any surrounding structures.

Floating Reservoir Covers
Step 2

Weights are then placed in the centre of the containment material, and around the corners, this forces the slack from the cover into slumps, which will collect and drain off rain water.

Installing Floating Covers
Step 3

Covered floats are then added parallel to the weights, to provide additional safety and walkways for the project.

Reservoir Cover Installation
Step 4

Any hatches, air vents or additions are added to ensure the floating cover meets design criteria.

Step 5

All welds are tested to ensure their longevity, periodic inspections and cleanings should be planned to ensure the overall longevity of the cover.

Floating covers are a Geosynthetic cover that is placed over above ground reservoirs, this helps to reduce evaporation of the contained liquid, contamination of the liquid from outside sources such as animals waste (which can reduce water potability), prevents nasty odours and minimise the emission of volatile organic compounds such as slurry. Water stored within a reservoir that features a floating cover will have a greater chemical stability, which can reduce the use of chlorine and other balancers within potable water storage.

Floating covers have a simple and low maintenance design, resisting wind uplift and can even be converted to a bio-gas collector system. Our floating covers are made with a Geomembrane that has a high UV tolerance and extremely low permeability, helping to ensure long term protection of the reservoir contents against rain, snow and damage from UV from the sun.

Geosynthetic Technology have over 40-years experience in the design, fabrication and installation of Geosynthetics, Geotextiles and Geomembranes, across 35-countries in 5-contients. We have worked on large and small projects alike, with experience installing the world’s largest lagoon liner in Kazakhstan, to smaller lake and pond projects for golf clubs, farms and private homes. Our expert team can recommend the best Geotextiles and Geomembranes for your project, designing the most efficient and long lasting lining combinations required for your project, and we offer a bona fide warranty on the fabrication and installation of our Geosynthetic liners.

We welcome the opportunity to work with you to provide technical assistance and pricing information for the Geotextiles and Geomembranes required for your floating reservoir or lake cover, please do not hesitate to contact us regarding your project.
